Video: How to Achieve Any Challenging Goal

Hi Everyone,

One of the biggest reasons why I’ve been very successful at achieving challenging goals, whether they be in business, or in other areas of life, is because I’ve been really good at breaking them down into smaller, easier goals or tasks.

I recorded the video below to illustrate this, and I gave some examples of how this works in achieving different types of challenging goals, I hope you enjoy it!

The thing that gave me the idea to record this video was that I was round at my parents house helping my little sister with her maths homework a couple of nights ago. There was one problem she got stuck on and I could see why it was challenging. I had to actually break the problem down into 4 parts, and then each part took about 4 to 6 lines of working to work it out. Then I had to put the 4 parts back together into an equation to find the answer. Then I had to explain the whole thing to my sister until she understood it enough to be able to solve similar questions 🙂

It made me remember, this is the way I look at any challenging goal, whether it be in maths, or in business, in fitness, or in ANY area of life. And it’s the reason I’ve been successful in many areas. I take things that look difficult and break them down into smaller more manageable chunks, and then put them together.

All of you have that ability, and I hope that the video above while containing some seemingly obvious information, will inspire many of you to look again at chasing dreams that you may have put in the ‘too hard’ basket.

As the popular American author, Mark Twain once said, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.”

I welcome your comments,

Kind regards,

  2. Loved the presentation – so on point and easy to follow with those little drawings! You are definitely an artist. Illustrations like these make it so easy to understand and great for the inpatient ones as well. Thank you so very much for taking your time to share. I appreciate you.

  3. What a wonderful way to explain how to reach a goal. You are so right. When we start something, it seems overwhelming and many times we give up, because it doesn’t seem possible. What you explained is fantastic. Thanks

  4. Hi Mark Ling,

Thanks for the video. As I am a visual learner, those drawing really helped me to break down the goal I have in mind into smaller, manageable tasks.

  5. Thanks Mark,

very practical. Just one question; I remember that reaching a “mountain” requires you to break it down fromthe top. Do you agree with that.

    Best regards,

    Peter

  6. Wonderful, doable and not overwhelming. I reminds me of walking the Larapinta Trail (230 k’s). We broke it into tasks. Information getting, planning, prioritising, fitness building, funding, equipment. Then the on walk itself getting through the moment by moment challenges and still enjoying yourself and the environment. Making the journey work for you and others. I realise I can do this. Thank you Mark I now see the connection.

  7. Hi Mark,

I received your video back on the 7th but due to other priorities I just now had a chance to view it for the first time and glad I did. I’ve heard your name kicked around a few times but really had no idea what you did. Sure glad I didn’t just hit the delete button as I most often do. Loved the little visual drawings, as they say ” A picture is worth a thousand words”. This definitely helps to make reaching the top of the mountain a whole lot more attainable.

    Thanks,
    Paul G.

  8. Thanks for the video…love the drawings – you’re great at drawing! It reminds us that a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step…and another step…and another step after until we reach that final step.

    Have a great day!

  9. Thank you. This reading has been very refreshing and inspirational. I now realize now, how powerful the mind and the spoken word can be. I am now practicing what was read.

  10. All what you put in front of me has come before – YET YOU are the one who helped it fall into place! YOU INSPIRED ME! THANKS SO MUCH – BEST WISHES

  11. Video did not resonate with me because:

HATED the cartoon drawings. NOT cute, just trite!

Breaking down goals to small steps is well known. What is
    new about this concept? Zero!
Australian accent a bit difficult to understand.

  12. Thank you, Mark! I was just defining a few new projects tonight when I noticed your email. It was just what I needed. I’m great a defining a project and and explaining my expectations. I stumble all over getting it done, especially in the time frame I’ve set.
So now, I’m going to go break them down into small steps. Then give myself a high five for completing each step. 🙂

  13. Mark, thanks for the Video, enjoyed immensely. Sometimes we just need to put things into perspective & flow. Haven’t got around to reading what you sent but will soon. Your Testimonials sum it all up pretty well – Life is what you choose – choose wisely to benefit! Thanks again to yourself and Amanda.

Thank you so much for your video. I’m dying to start, but finances are holding me back just at the moment. I’ll be joining your programme asap! I loved listening to your matter-of=fact style and accent. I’m an Aussie and it’s great hearing someone with a lifestyle similar to ours for a change. I’ll be in touch as soon as I can.

Don’t give up will you? I want to be part of your plans!

  15. I often find that after I’ve procrastinated getting something done and actually sit down with it and take a real look and figure it out, oh! it’s a lot easier than the buildup in my mind had pegged it to be for a long time.

  16. To sum it up…..its the way I live my life when faced with eating and elephant…..one bite at a time. Like Mark says nothing is daunting when you look at it from a step, by step perspective. One that has helps me turn lion roars in a cat meow every time..!!!
